About

My name is Ernst Plaatsman. I was born in the Netherlands and grew up in the neighbourhood of Amsterdam. I have been trained as a traditional goldsmith and attended university in IT with programming major.

In 2006, after about a decade of bench experience as a goldsmith, first working at Mark Lange Sieraden (Alkmaar, The Netherlands) and then at Ex Aurum Jewellers (Montréal, QC, Candada). Still at Ex Aurum Jewellers, I started creating CAD jewelry designs and became the head designer in 2008. In 2018 I left Ex Aurum and joined the Montreal manufacturing team of Bixler's as CAD director.

Outside of my professional life I'm a proud single dad of two teenagers. In the occasion I have some free time I like to read (fantasy and science-fiction novels) or try to develop my ideas, often through programming or with my filament 3d-printer.

Plugin for Rhinoceros®.

As a jewelry designer I work almost exclusively with Rhino. In 2013 I started developping the plugin to aid my design team. Although it started as a side project it has grown over the years and became a significant tool for the company. In 2017 I finally decided to finish it as a release it publicly.

In late 2020 I adjusted the plugin for Rhino 7 and now it's available in the Rhino Package Manager.

Although the plugin was initially written with jewelry in mind, some of the functionality is certainly useful in other fields too.

I still have new idea's to implement and will keep developing it. If you have suggestions please send me a line.
